Mary N. Maultsby Pitt unit 2022-24 Vice-President, NCAE Liaison
Mary N. Maultsby was born the second of four siblings in Ayden, NC to parents Valentino and Magnolia Nobles. She graduated from Ayden-Grifton High School in 1974 and enrolled in Fayetteville State University.
In 1978 she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education. While at FSU she was listed in Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges and was initiated into the Delta Alpha Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in Spring 1976. As an avid FSU alumni Mary was a founder of the Pitt County Fayetteville State University Alumni Association and currently serves as its Treasurer, and Scholarship and Membership Chair. She is also an At Large Member of the FSU Alumni Association. She was one of the Tri-Chairmen of the FSU ’78 Reunion and is a former Ms. FSU Alumni.
Professionally, Mary is a retired educator (43 years of service to Pitt, Edgecombe and Halifax counties-NC) and is currently a K-1 Math Coach at Stocks Elementary School. She served as PTA President at Elmhurst Elementary School and Junius H. Rose High School (Pitt County). In Halifax County she was recognized as “Teacher making most growth in reading and math”.
As a member of the Iota Kappa Omega Graduate Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. she is Vice President, Program Chair and on the Graduate Advisory Council. Previously she served as Treasurer and Secretary-Treasurer.
She works with the Pitt County Board of Elections as a Precinct Chief and Judge (30+ years). Mary is also a member of the Pitt unit of the National Council of Negro Women and the Pitt Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Coalition.
In 2014, at the biennial Pearls and Rubies Benefit Luncheon sponsored by the Zeta Pi Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., she was honored for great work in the Greenville community. Personally, she is widowed and the mother of two grown, high achieving daughters. One is a nurse practitioner and the other a cosmetologist. She is a congregant of Sycamore Hill Missionary Baptist Church (Greenville, NC).
